ASU-SCU Healthcare Innovation Virtual Mini-Course has been successfully held

On August 1, the one-week "Healthcare Innovation Mini Course" held by West China School of Nursing, Sichuan University (SCU) and Edson School of Nursing and Health Innovation, Arizona State University (ASU), has come to an end. This course has got strong support from the International Office of West China Hospital, Mental Health Center of West China Hospital, Teaching and Research Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of West China School of Nursing and Information Department of West China Hospital.


Reform and innovation are important driving forces for achieving scientific development. In the post-epidemic era, the importance of innovation and leadership in the field of health care has become more prominent. In order to promote the communication between nursing schools and train students to discover problems, analyze problems from multiple perspectives and use new technology and methods to solve problems, West China School of Nursing, SCU and Edison School of Nursing and Health Innovation, ASU, jointly hosted the 2020 summer "Healthcare Innovation Mini Course", which contained the Innovation Theory, leadership, entrepreneurship, technology and system design, etc.


This course adopts the combination of online and offline methods. The online part mainly included theoretical lectures and project reports, which were hosted by the Master of Health Innovation teaching team led by Professor Craig Laser from ASU. The offline part mainly focused on group discussion, with Associate Professor Ren Jianhua from SCU guiding and supervising the participation of West China nursing students. 20 nursing students were divided into 4 groups for group work. Each group conceived a nursing innovation project and wrote a project plan. Then group members shared their project with teachers and students through the online platform. Two multinational and cross-university teams successfully completed the entire innovation course through the effective cooperation of online and offline.


Healthcare Innovation Mini Course features the core content of the Master's program in Healthcare Innovation at Edison School of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University. At the end of the course, Zhang Fengying, deputy dean of West China School of Nursing, Sichuan University, delivered a speech, thanking faculty members of Edison School of Nursing and Health Innovation at ASU for their strong support for this course, and hoped that the two schools could have more opportunities of collaboration, such as exchange visits, online courses, and joint training in the future.


In order to enrich students' summer life, increase international vision, and expand knowledge boundaries, this year, West China School of Nursing has transformed its regular students' visits to different countries into online international exchanges. In this one-week course, students completed the learning process of building a team, conceiving an innovative project, writing a project plan and reporting on it. Professors at ASU praised the innovative thinking and teamwork skills of the students in the course. This mini course of health innovation ignited the fire of innovation in the hearts of students. Students will be committed to the exploration and practice of nursing innovation, and strive to become a new generation of innovative nursing talents, with wisdom and efforts to help the nursing profession to flourish.
