Four International Courses Offered by School of Nursing Successfully Completed in 2025 Sichuan University UIP

From June 29 to July 11, School of Nursing invited experts from the University of Oviedo, California State University, Pacific Lutheran University, and Bond University to deliver four English-taught courses in Sichuan University UIP, and successfully held clinical internship event for international students.

Expert of "Sichuan High-Level Talent Introduction Program", Associate Professor Martin Payo Ruben from the Faculty of Medicine of University of Oviedo delivered " Health Promotion Strategies for Nursing: Main Theories and Design" course, co-led by Professor Zhang Fengying. Associate Professor Ruben clarified the definition and related theories of health promotion, and guided students to identify and define health problems, integrate health theories into health promotion measures that are scientific, actionable, economically beneficial and socially beneficial.

Associate Professor Xun Xu from the College of Business Administration and Public Policy of California State University, Dominguez Hills, delivered the course "Decision-making and Innovation Techniques in the Age of Digital Intelligence", co-led by Associate Professor Xie Xiaofeng. Professor Xu provided an in-depth explanation of fundamental theories in decision science and key concepts like decision trees. Using visual analytics software, he guided students in employing data-driven methods for optimal decision-making, cultivating their core competencies for effective decision-making and innovation in the digital intelligence era.

Associate Professor Mary Ellen Biggerstaff from School of Nursing, Pacific Lutheran University delivered the course "Global Perspectives on Advanced Practice Nursing: History, Models, and Innovations", co-led by Associate Professor Tian Yali. Professor Biggerstaff provided a thorough analysis of the global historical development of the Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) role. Through comparative analysis of APN models across multiple countries, she guided students in evaluating APN's impact on health outcomes, health equity, and system transformation, with a particular focus on innovative strategies for introducing or expanding the APN role within the Chinese healthcare system.

Associate Professor Cindy Jones from the Faculty of Health Sciences & Medicine of Bond University delivered the course Dementia in Aged Care (Lecture Series), co-led by Associate Professor Tang Li. Professor Cindy Jones lectured on four key aspects: the neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia patients in aged care; person-centered theory and nursing interventions; the lived experiences of dementia patients and their family caregivers; and technology-assisted care for dementia patients. Through diverse forms such as individual presentations, group discussions and debates, Professor Cindy enabled students to become familiar with pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions for elderly dementia patients, explore technology in dementia care, appreciate the philosophy of patient-centered nursing, and comprehend the profound significance of life.

During UIP, Professor Martin Payo Ruben and Associate Professor Mary Ellen Biggerstaff were invited to serve as judges for the Second Medical Student Simulated International Academic Conference at West China School of Medicine, Sichuan University. Professor Ruben also provided one-on-one research design consultation for undergraduate and postgraduate students of School of Nursing.

On the afternoon of July 2, our school organized 38 international students to visit wards in the Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine Department, the Mental Health Center, and the Outpatient Department.

This UIP event strengthened exchanges and friendships among international students, facilitated learning about cutting-edge international nursing theories and practices, explored possibilities for future collaboration, and built bridges for academic and cultural exchange between faculty and students.
