Student Sharing of Learning Experiences:

CHAN Tsz Him, School of Nursing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University: We are deeply grateful to all the West China Nursing faculty for their guidance and encouragement. During our time here, we have acquired a great deal of practical knowledge. Through rotating across various departments, conducting simple patient consultations, and analyzing cases, this has been not merely an experiential opportunity, but a profound journey of enlightenment. Our instructors not only taught us various nursing skills but also exemplified, through their own actions, what empathy and compassionate care truly mean—embodying person-centered healthcare. This invaluable experience has ignited our passion for the nursing profession and strengthened our sense of purpose, while also allowing us to envision the warmth and impact that nurses can bring to patients in the future. We will carry these learnings with us and continue to strive forward with dedication.

Ng Mung Kei, School of Nursing, The University of Hong Kong: This Program activity for students, jointly organized by Sichuan University and the affiliated hospitals of West China, has been immensely rewarding. We learned about the history and development of West China Hospital and the School of Medicine,Sichuan University, and witnessed their capacity and expertise in handling complex and difficult cases. During our clinical rotations in the wards, I communicated with patients in the role of a nurse and participated in care planning discussions. I gained a deeper appreciation for the solid theoretical knowledge and humanistic care demonstrated by nurses, learned about the organizational structures and nursing approaches across various departments, and was prompted to reflect on the strengths and limitations of healthcare in Hong Kong. Through this learning experience, I hope to bring back good practices and humanistic care values to my home institution, and I look forward to continuing exchanges and learning with Sichuan University and West China Hospital in the future.
