The Southwest and Northwest Division of Nursing Professional Track of The 10th China University Students Medical Skills Competition Successfully Held

Hosted by the Ministry of Education, and academically guided by Teaching Advisory Committee on Nursing Higher Education, Ministry of Education, (hereinafter referred to as " Teaching Advisory Committee on Higher Nursing Education"), the Southwest and Northwest Division of Nursing Professional Track of the 10th China University Student Medical Technology Skills Competition, undertaken by Sichuan University, was successfully held in Chengdu on April 16-18, 2021.

The 2day competition attracted participants from 10 provinces and autonomous regions including Yunnan, Guizhou, Tibet, Xinjiang, Shanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, Chongqing and Sichuan. Students from 41 universities competed on the same stage, and exhibited the elegant demeanor in advocating morality and nursing skills for health promotion.

Ms. Peng Yi, Deputy Director of the Education Department of Sichuan Province, Prof. Liang Bin, Vice President of Sichuan University, Prof. Shang Shaomei, Chairman of Teaching Advisory Committee on Higher Nursing Education, Mr. Pei Zhonghui, Director of occupational education Center of People’s Medical Publishing House, and Prof. Zhang Wei, Secretary of the Party Committee of West China School of Medicine/West China Hospital, Sichuan University, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. Prof. Wu Ying, Chairman of the Arbitration Committee, Prof. Sun Qiuhua, chairman of the Discipline Supervision Committee, Prof. Wang Wei, Deputy Head Referee, Prof. Wang Kefang and Prof. Hu Yan, experts of the competition, and Prof. Luo Fengming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of West China School of Medicine/West China Hospital, Sichuan University, also attended the opening ceremony. Prof. Li Ka, the Executive Dean of West China School of Nursing, Sichuan University, presided over the opening and closing ceremonies of the competition.

Prof. Jiang Xiaoying, the winner of the 43rd Nightingale Medal, was invited as the Chief Referee for this competition, and took the oath on behalf of the referee team. All participating students took the contestants swear too.

Following the principles of fairness and justice, the entire competition consisted of three parts: preliminary, semi-finals and finals. A total of 20 teams were successfully promoted to the second round, and 8 of them stood out and entered the finals. Finally, the host team from Sichuan University exhibited a wonderful doctor-nurse integrated First Aid skills, drawing a perfect ending for the finals.

Sichuan University was awarded with the Best Organization Award and Best Contribution Award, and will participate the national final competition with the Grand Prize winners (Guizhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Lanzhou University) and the First Prize winners (Chongqing Medical University, Kunming Medical University, Third Military Medical University, Qinghai University, Xi'an Jiaotong University and Southwest Medical University.

The competition has won high praise and supported by all participating universities, and was live broadcasted across the country through the Internet with nearly 120,000 audiences. The competition highlighted nursing temperament, exhibited the southwest beauty, and enhanced the value of nursing discipline.
