On 15 October, the inaugural meeting of the Sichuan Provincial Teaching Guidance Committee for Nursing Disciplines in Undergraduate-Level Higher Education Institutions, combined with the first plenary meeting of all committee members, was successfully held at the West China Campus of Sichuan University. The meeting was guided by the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education, organized by the Teaching Guidance Committee, and hosted by the West China School of Nursing, Sichuan University. Dang Yuewu, Director of the Academic Affairs Office of Sichuan University; Li Ka, Chair of the Teaching Guidance Committee; and committee members from 11 universities across the province attended the meeting.
Director Dang Yuewu, on behalf of the Office of Academic Affairs at Sichuan University, extended warm congratulations on the establishment of the Teaching Guidance Committee. He reviewed the long history of nursing education at West China and noted that, against the backdrop of the new era, the ‘Healthy China’ strategy imposes higher demands on the development of the nursing workforce. It is essential to fully implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, promote interdisciplinary integration, and cultivate versatile and innovative nursing professionals who meet the needs of the national health strategy, regional development and student growth. Sichuan University will fully support the Committee’s work and, together with sister institutions across the province, jointly promote reform and innovation in undergraduate nursing education throughout the province.
In her address, Shang Shaomei, Chair of the Ministry of Education’s Teaching Guidance Committee for Nursing Disciplines, noted that the establishment of the Sichuan Provincial Teaching Guidance Committee for Nursing Disciplines was both timely and of great significance. She expressed the hope that the Sichuan Provincial Committee would, firstly, conduct thorough research to serve as a think tank for educational decision-making; secondly, provide effective guidance to act as a navigator for institutional reform; and thirdly, deliver excellent services to serve as a stepping stone for educational development.
Chairperson Li Ka, drawing on the strategic initiatives for ‘Healthy China’ and the construction of an ‘Education Powerhouse’, elaborated on the mission and positioning of high-level nursing talent cultivation. She comprehensively summarised the achievements of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Nursing Disciplines to date, systematically outlined key tasks for the next phase, and led all attendees in studying the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s reply to the faculty and students of Sichuan University.
The conference studied the ‘Charter of the Teaching Guidance Committees for General Undergraduate Institutions of Higher Education in Sichuan Province’ and reviewed the ‘Detailed Rules of Procedure for the Teaching Guidance Committee for Nursing-related Programmes at General Undergraduate Institutions of Higher Education in Sichuan Province’, thereby laying the groundwork for subsequent work.
Chairperson Shang Shaomei delivered an online lecture and training session for the current members of the Teaching Guidance Committee on the theme ‘Pooling Strengths for Cross-Domain Collaborative Teaching and Research, Empowering the Substantive Development of the Nursing Discipline through Professional Communities’, covering three aspects: consolidating fundamentals, strengthening foundations, innovating concepts and practical achievements.
This conference marked the official launch of the Sichuan Provincial Teaching Guidance Committee for Nursing Disciplines. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and under the leadership of the Sichuan Provincial Department of Education, the Committee will implement the spirit of the National and Provincial Education Conferences as well as the National Conference on Undergraduate Education in Higher Education Institutions in the New Era. It will fully implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, adhere to the principle of ‘prioritising undergraduate education’,advance the ‘Four Returns’, and give full play to its roles in research, consultation, evaluation, training, guidance and leadership. It will spare no effort in promoting the high-quality, substantive development of higher education in our province, strive to enhance the talent cultivation capabilities of general undergraduate universities, and nurture socialist builders and successors who are well-rounded in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and labour education.
