Recently, the West China School of Nursing at Sichuan University successfully held its 2026 National Summer Camp for Outstanding Undergraduate Students. The camp brought together outstanding nursing students from leading universities across the country and offered a series of academic and cultural activities, providing a platform for exchange and fully demonstrating the profound heritage and innovative vitality of West China Nursing as one of the Ministry of Education's "Double First-Class" disciplines.

At the faculty meet-and-greet session, Professor Li Ka, Dean of the West China School of Nursing at Sichuan University and a member of the Party Committee of West China School of Medicine (West China Hospital) at Sichuan University, delivered the welcome address. On behalf of the School, she extended a warm welcome to the participating students who had come from afar, reviewed the more-than-a-century history of West China Nursing, and highlighted the School's frontier initiatives in "Nursing+" interdisciplinary integration as well as its distinguished talent cultivation system. She encouraged the students to uphold the motto of "Virtue, Diligence, Pragmatism and Innovation," to forge ahead in an era of rapid development for the nursing discipline, and invited them to join the West China Nursing community and work together to build a nursing discipline that is "top-tier in China and world-leading," contributing the strength of West China Nursing to the Healthy China Initiative.

During the faculty exchange session, participants demonstrated solid professional competence and research potential through self-introductions, and engaged in lively and in-depth face-to-face discussions with faculty members on nursing research frontiers and career planning. As a distinctive component of the camp, participants visited the Jitai'an Base of the West China Nursing Experimental Center. Guided by detailed explanations from laboratory experts, they experienced firsthand the deep integration of frontier disciplines—biomedicine, polymer science, evidence-based medicine, and artificial intelligence—with nursing needs, and gained a deeper understanding of West China Nursing's leadership in innovation at the intersection of medicine and engineering.

In addition, invited experts delivered a special lecture on "Nursing + Materials" interdisciplinary research, systematically illustrating vivid practice in how disciplinary convergence addresses pain points in clinical nursing and translates innovative outcomes into practice. During the camp, outstanding senior students also shared their research journeys and personal growth stories at West China, providing valuable guidance for the participants.
