School of Nursing completed 2024 Sichuan University UIP Courses successfully

During July 1st to 12th, 2024, School of Nursing invited experts from University of Oviedo, California State University, Bond University, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University to deliver 4 international courses in Sichuan University UIP, and successfully held clinical internship event for international students.

Expert of "Sichuan High-Level Talent Introduction Program", Associate Professor Martin Payo Ruben from the Faculty of Medicine of University of Oviedo delivered “ Health Promotion Strategies for Nursing: Main Theories and Design” course, co-led by Professor Zhang Fengying. Associate Professor Ruben clarified the definition and related theories of health promotion, and guided students to identify and define health problems, integrate health theories into health promotion measures that are scientific, actionable, economically beneficial and socially beneficial. Associate Professor Ruben  was invited to be a judge for the first International Medical Students Simulation Conference.

   Associate Professor Cindy Jones from Faculty of Health Sciences & Medicine of  Bond University delivered "Dementia in Aged Care (Lecture Series)" course, co-led by Associate Professor Tang Li. Associate Professor Cindy Jones delivered course centering on the psychological and behavioral symptoms, care experiences, nursing interventions, and modern technology applications of dementia. Through various forms such as personal presentation, group discussion and debate competition, Associate Professor Cindy Jones helped students understand the life experiences of patients with dementia and their caregivers, explore the advantages of drug and non drug interventions, and possibilities for technology to assist dementia care.

Senior Supervisor Sijian Li fromThe School of Nursing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University delivered "Fundamentals of Disaster Resilience" course, co-led by Associate Professor Yuan Zhenfei. Focusing on disaster risk management and resilience construction Dr. Sijian Li introduced key terms such as risk, exposure and vulnerability, and clarified various impacts of disasters, practical strategies for responding to disasters and epidemics, and the practical application of psychological first aid (PFA) in depth. Dr. Sijian Li also discussed the concept and evaluation methods of resilience with students, enhanced students' understanding and application abilities in disaster risk management and resilience construction through group discussion and case study. Dr Sijian Li was invited to be a judge for the first International Medical Students Simulation Conference.


On July 12th, our school organized international students to visit featured nursing wards such as the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine,  Department of Cardiovascular and Vascular Surgery and Mental Health Center. In the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Chief Nurse Wu Ying led students to learn patient education method and experience the outpatient follow-up process in the inhalation clinic. In the Department of Cardiovascular and Vascular Surgery, under the guidance of Matron Chen Miao, students learned about the main types of diseases treated and nursing characteristics, and observed team rescue drill. At the Mental Health Center, Chief Nurse Chen Juan taught diseases admitted to the comprehensive psychological ward and related physical therapy, PICU ward patient management.

Through the UIP, we strengthened international students' learning and exchange in our school, promoted understanding and learning of international nursing cutting-edge theories and practices, and built a bridge for academic and cultural exchanges between faculty members and students.
