West China School of Nursing Has Successfully Held the "Nursing the world, promoting nursing Together" Online Forum

In order to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birthday and continually explore the construction and development of nursing discipline, West China School of Nursing held an online forum on “Nursing the world, promoting nursing Together” at the 5G Remote Conference Center on the afternoon of May 12. Professor SHANG Shaomei, Dean of School of Nursing, Peking University, Professor LIU Huaping, School of Nursing, Peking Union Medical College, Professor CHE Xiying, Dean of Nethersole School of Nursing, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Director PI Xuehua, the Office of the Chief Editor and General Manager of People's Medical Publishing House Co., LTD, Professor YIN Lei,Macau University of Science and Technology,Professor LI Weimin, Dean of West China School of Medicine / West China Hospital / West China School of Nursing, and Professor ZHANG Wei, Secretary of the Party Committee of West China School of Medicine / West China Hospital gave keynote speeches. The forum was chaired by Professor LI Ka, Executive Dean of West China School of Nursing and Associate Professor ZHANG Fengying,Deputy Dean of West China School of Nursing.

In the opening speech, Professor SHANG Shaomei said that nurses played a vital role in providing healthcare services, which shows more prominent in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic. International Council of Nurses set the theme of the 2020 International Nurses Day as "A voice to lead-Nursing the world to health". Paying attention to the construction of human resources of nurses and promoting the development of nursing discipline were not only a response to the current urgent appeal of WHO, but also a long-term strategy for China's healthcare. To achieve the goal of "solving the shortage of nurses in all countries by 2030", large-scale investments should be made to accelerate nursing education, and promoted it to a high-level and diversified direction, which could continuously contribute new vitality to the healthcare. Hope that we can work together with various nursing schools to jointly promote the development of global nursing.

Professor LI Weimin, as an expert of the national high-level expert group on medical treatment of COVID-19, made a speech on the topic of "The difficulty and challenge of hospital management during the pandemic -- hospital infection prevention and control". Professor Li shared the experience of West China Hospital in COVID-19 prevention and control during the pandemic, and affirmed that West China nursing team has completed all designated tasks, internationally and domestically, and made outstanding contributions to the society.

Professor ZHANG Wei shared his opinion about the direction of nursing development from the perspective of medical service reform in the era of big data, with the speech on the topic of "Reform of healthcare services in the new era". Professor Zhang believed that, as a vital link in healthcare service, nursing was essential to ensure the quality and safety of medical service. Theoretical, technological, model innovation, process reengineering, and management reform were critical for nursing development.

Director PI Xuehua, gave speech on the topic of “Promote the development of nursing discipline by publishing high-quality nursing books”, and analyzed the history of nursing teaching materials in China and the overview of nursing books published by the People ’s Medical Publishing House, and emphasized that masterpieces of nursing was needed to promote nursing discipline.

Professor Che Xiying, from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, shared the experience of leading nursing faculty and staff to promote the construction and development of nursing disciplines by scientific research with the speech of "Strategies to promote nursing research performance ".

Professor LIU Huaping, from Peking Union Medical College, talked about "Nursing development and scientific research". She compared the differences between domestic and foreign articles published in five aspects: clinical nursing, nursing management, nursing education, humanistic nursing and nursing informatics, and proposed thinking and suggestions about publishing high-quality articles.

More than 6,000 participants joined the online forum, covering 23 provinces, from more than 100 hospitals, universities and medical service institutions. Participants left comments on the online platform, thank for West China School of Nursing with building the communication platform, and thank for the experts for their wonderful speeches.

The forum also interpreted the original intention and mission of Chinese Nursing discipline of "For the Happiness of Chinese People and For the Rejuvenation of China."
