The speech of the "Enhance Discipline Strength and Promote Nursing Development" series was successfully held on July 13rd. Prof. Jan D. Reinhardt, the professor and director of Health Sciences at the Institute for Disaster Management and Reconstruction (IDMR),Sichuan University and Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the jointly doctoral supervisor of West China School of nursing, was invited to give a wonderful speech on the topic of "randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and pecking ducks: An introduction to clinical trials design". The Lecture was hosted by Prof. ZHANG Fengying, the Vice Dean of West China School of Nursing, SCU.
Prof. Jan D. Reinhardt serves as Immediate-Past Chair of the Disaster Rehabilitation Committee (DRC) of the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM), and is also a member of the Editorial Boards of the journals Spinal Cord and International Journal of Environmental and Public Health. He fulfills the role of international coordinator of the Chinese branch of the International Survey on Spinal Cord Injury (IntSCI). He has authored over 100 original articles in international journals with 1,593 citations and over 10,496 reads. His main research interests include: Rehabilitation research, International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, and health and rehabilitation after natural disaster etc,h index is 22 (excluding self-citation).
The speech was held offline with more than 200 teachers and students participated. Prof. Jan D. Reinhardt took randomized controlled trials as the topic, compared the randomized controlled trials with Beijing roast duck, visualized various factors in the randomized controlled trials, and stimulated audiences’ learning interests. In addition, the report standards of clinical research design, research scheme and results, clinical trial quality evaluation tools, and elements of RCT experiment design were explained in detail. The equivalence between senior undergraduates and postgraduates in our college and Prof. Jan D. Reinhardt was discussed in depth.
“Enhance Discipline Strength and Promote Nursing Development” Lecture Series promote the domestic and international academic communication on nursing and interdisciplinary research. It is an important channel to expand the vision of nursing teachers and students. Our school will continuously invite experts from all over the world to carry out in-depth thinking and communication, and contribute to the construction and development of nursing discipline.
