Standardized Training Section
Since the Ministry of Health implemented the standardized residency training program in 1993, West China Hospital of Sichuan University is among the first batch of university hospitals to carry out the program. In 2000, the Department of Anesthesiology, following the North American residency model and combining with the characteristics of WCH/WCSM, started to carry out the first standardized training program. After that, this program was rolled out in various departments, and in 2006, the hospital was approved by the Ministry of Health as a specialist training base. In October 2014, according to the latest standards of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, 23 departments of the hospital were successfully re-declared and identified as standardized training bases. In 2015, led by Peking Union Medical College Hospital, “China Consortium of Elite Teaching Hospitals for Residency Education” was set up to jointly promote the resident training affairs, Other founding members include Peking University First Hospital, Zhongshan Hospital of Fudan University, The First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, Xiangya Hospital of Central South University and West China Hospital of Sichuan University. At the same year, West China Hospital, together with other 23 hospitals in China, became the first demonstration base for standardized training. In 2015, 37 provincial specialist training bases of West China Hospital were approved. In 2017, our Departments of Cardiology, Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and Neurosurgery became the first batch of national pilot departments. In 2018, our experts from General Surgery, Geriatrics, Pediatric Anesthesia and Critical Care Medicine participated in the drafting of training regulations, contents and standards for the second batch of national specialist training bases, and these departments were also approved to be the second batch of national specialist training bases.
In addition to standardized training for doctors, WCH/WCSM was the first in China to carry out two-year standardized training for resident technicians, pharmacists and nurses in 2006.
Through years of continuous exploration, WCH/WCSM has formed an integrated standardized training system for residents. In the future, it will take more active steps to enhance the construction of resident training bases, trainee management, quality control, refined management, information construction, and training for teachers.
